Thinking Portfolio’s Application Portfolio is a solution to the challenge Scanfil has faced in managing a large number of applications and technologies

Scanfil uses the Thinking Portfolio’s Application Portfolio to visualise the Group’s range of applications and technologies. ICT Director Maarit Säilynoja explains that the primary reason for the acquisition of the Application Portfolio was the need to improve visibility into the applications and technologies in use at the company’s factories around the world and the interdependencies between them. Compiling a complete picture was challenging and a more robust solution had been sought for some time. The Thinking Portfolio Application Portfolio allows you to get this overview.

A secondary objective of the acquisition was that the solution could be used to share information outside the IT department, improve transparency of the systems and thus increase interest in the use of the different systems. For example, the Application Portfolio can be used to find out more about the key contacts and end-users of different applications and solutions.

Thinking Portfolio was easy to buy

The selection phase’s perception of the Thinking Portfolio’s Application Portfolio has proven to be correct. The solution was perceived as easily accessible. The main selection criterion was clarity, where Thinking Portfolio’s solution clearly outperformed the other options. The application had to be easily deployable across the group and in all countries. Compared to the Thinking Portfolio, the selection team found the implementation of other solutions to be rather complex.

-Thinking Portfolio also has no problem with a large number of applications and users. It was easy to buy when you could fully estimate the price in advance, regardless of the number of users. In conclusion, cost-effectiveness, ease of purchase and clarity confirmed our decision. The decision was also motivated by the need to implement the management solution quickly. We gained value from the solution in a short timeframe.

The deployment of the application portfolio was accelerated by the skills of Thinking Portfolio’s consultants

At the beginning of the deployment project, Thinking Portfolio’s consultants presented how the project would work, and it progressed smoothly to the finish line. The consultants were well aware of what the portfolio could be used for, what it could do, and there were always ideas for new functionality requests. The Thinking Portfolio Application Portfolio clearly shows the impact of the changes

Scanfil’s Application Portfolio describes the dependencies between applications and their different technologies. The Thinking Portfolio Application Portfolio is well suited for this too. At Scanfil, it is important to have high transparency on these numerous dependencies, because you need to be able to understand everything that might be affected by a change in one technology or application. The interlinked overview is clearly visible in the portfolio, which helps, for example, during the planning phase of a change, when the server architect can see in the portfolio everything that will be affected by a change on one server.

-User feedback on the Application Portfolio management solution has been nothing but positive. It is a great support to IT’s work, it will become increasingly important and therefore a natural part of IT’s processes. The solution has also been presented to the business side, which has shown great interest in the solution.
