The role of a Project Management Office (PMO) in supporting change is pivotal, especially as organisations increasingly recognize the importance of effective change management for the success of their initiatives.
There are several new roles that a PMO might adopt to support change within an organization, among others:
- A PMO can serve as a strategic advisor to senior management, providing insights and recommendations on how to align project initiatives with the organization’s change management strategies.
- The PMO can take on the role of change management facilitator, to ensure that the human side of change is managed effectively. To understand the impact of change on stakeholders and provide tools and techniques to manage resistance to change.
- The PMO can oversee the portfolio of projects to ensure that change initiatives are prioritized, funded, and aligned with business strategy.
- The PMO can help to foster a culture that is open to change, where continuous improvement is valued and supported.
At the same time, the change also applies to PMO itself. For the PMO to act as an engine of change, it must also be able to renew and evolve itself, all the time.
