Thinking Portfolio helps Isala in project selection process and capacity planning

Isala is a big specialised clinical hospital with five locations in Zwolle, Meppel, Steenwijk, Kampen and Heerde. It employs around 6500 highly motivated healthcare providers and offers more than just basic care. With regard to specialised roles such as heart surgery, neurosurgery and dialysis, Isala compares to academic hospitals. That’s why people from the surrounding hospitals and far beyond come to Isala for complex care.

Why Portfolio Management?

Many projects containing an Information and ICT component are carried out within Isala. Isala aims to be at the forefront of medical, technical and social innovations in the care sector. This means that the demand for projects with an Information and ICT component will remain active. In order to keep a grip on these projects and create visibility of how many projects can be carried out simultaneously with the capacity available, Isala Information and ICT has acquired the Thinking Portfolio tool. Through filtering, the tool enables Isala to obtain easy, quick and agile insights into project phasing, progress, planning and capacity needs. Additionally, Thinking Portfolio supports the project selection process.

Why PMO Institute?

Prior to implementation, various systems were compared. In the end, the preference went out to PMO Institute’s Thinking, because a base format meeting our requirements and wishes was already available from UMC Utrecht. In addition, Thinking Portfolio had a high ease of use-score. PMO Institute tested the product with users and made appropriate modifications based on those results. Thinking Portfolio could be reasonable quickly implemented at Isala Information and ICT and during the first six months, various components have been modified through learning by doing. Both in this period and afterwards, the contact with PMO Institute has always been good. In our experience, they’re thinking things through along with us, are always easily accessible and any modification is quickly taken up.
